Knee Surgery 7/21/17

What started out as a doctors appointment for Mat's knee (locked up and couldn't straighten it out and was in a lot of pain) on Thursday (7/20/17) ended up sending us to the ER, but not for knee.  While Mat's vitals were being checked at the clinic the machine showed his heart rate being extremely high.  They hooked him up to an EKG which turned out to be normal; however, they suggested we go to ER.  We started out at Metroplex and after waiting 3 hours and having another EKG (normal) and a room full of people; we decided to go to post.  We were seen within an hour.  The doctor ordered another EKG (also normal) then looked at his knee.  He had a consult with the orthopedic surgeon.  Radiology told us they could not do an MRI until Mat could straighten out his leg.  The Orthopedic Dr told us to go home, not eat anything after midnight, and return to ortho clinic at 7:30 am the next morning for MRI and then surgery if needed.

We arrived at the Ortho Clinic on Friday morning and they looked over his knee and gave him a shot for the MRI to help with pain so he could straighten out his leg.  We made our way to Radiology which told us they couldn't see Mat until 12:30pm...we headed back to Ortho to give them the news.  Ortho went with us back to Radiology and the heads of the departments had a few words.  Mat was taken back for MRI within a few minutes.  After the MRI, we went back to Ortho Clinic and given the news that Mat has a bucket tear on the meniscus.  He would be going into surgery just as soon as we could sign in to admissions and surgery clinic.

We were taken back around 12:30pm for pre-op.  Mat was taken back into surgery around 1:45-2pmish (Bryan and I went to eat lunch).
We were told within an hour after surgery that Mat did well and prognosis was good for healing.  We were able to go back to him about 3:45pm.  We helped him get dress and went through the discharge instructions.  The discharge nurse had been homeschooled and Mat asked about a video of surgery...no video, but they did have pictures that the nurse gave us....which we thought was really cool.

a few funny things:  Mat was telling the anesthesiologist nurse about putting IVs in pets at the vet clinic, he woke up after surgery and asked if that is what a hangover felt like, Mat told us that he remembers the gas mask and they told him to take 5 breaths, he did, then took off mask and told them that was 5...they told him to put that mask back on
